Airpot Corp. now sellsMP5 Airpel Plus — the newest, smallest bore cylinder in its Airpel family of Anti-Stiction air cylinders. With a bore size of only 5.6 mm and a maximum outside diameter of 9.8 mm, MP5 is for low-force pneumatic actuation requiring the most sensitive pressure response and precise, accurate, gram-level force control.
MP5 Airpel is fitted with a specially shaped graphite piston precisely matched to fit a borosilicate glass cylinder enclosed in a stainless steel outer tube.
“Our MP5 uses no rod seal or bushing, so seal friction is totally avoided. The new design will have increased cycle life in most applications,” Tom Lee, Airpot’s vice president of engineering, said. “It is designed to be used without lubrication and reduces friction to a maximum of 0.5% of the load – approximately 10% of the already low-friction Airpels manufactured by Airpot.”
Lee said the MP5 is available in six stock strokes from 10 mm to 100 mm and performs best at an operating pressure range of 0.2 to 0.7 MPa. It operates in temperatures from -20°C to + 85°C with no change in performance.
Airpot’s MP5 Airpel is configured with a threaded ball joint rod end to easily accommodate mounting misalignments and is available in front or rear mounting styles. It is one-way acting with pressurization in the rod-extend direction only.
“One of the things that makes this cylinder stand out is that no other cylinder this size has the Airpel Plus low friction advantages,” Airpot president, Mark Gaberman, said. “MP5 is uniquely suited for precision uses including counterbalancing vertical loads, particularly those moved by linear motors; linear tension control; applying precise contact forces for machining and polishing; assembly of delicate parts; and any time smooth, gentle lifting or pushing is required.”
Airpot Corp. manufactures instrument-quality, precision air dashpots, snubbers, pneumatic actuators, Airpel Anti-Stiction air cylinders and Airpel-AB air bearing actuators. The company welcomes custom requirements and works with customers to adapt products to individual applications and sub-assembly service needs.
