CS Hyde Company is a woman-owned converter and supplier of high-performance thermoplastic films, tapes, fabrics, and silicone rubber products. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the limited supply of PPE for front line health care professionals, OEM manufactures and communities around the world have shifted their production and joined together to fabricate alternative face shields either by hand or with help of additive manufacturing (3d printing). These face shields can help provide a secondary form of protection against airborne particles. The face shield lenses are assembled with thin gauge clear plastics such as Polycarbonate, Polyester, or PETG. These are plastics that CS Hyde has been supplying numerous industries for different applications like produce overlays or barrier protection. CS Hyde first started to realize high need for these materials due to their requests from existing 3d printing customers who are printing the visors that the plastic shields attach too. For the past few years CS Hyde has been producing custom cut Ultem PEI 3d print surfaces for custom at home printers and OEM 3D printer manufactures.
CS Hyde has also used its own manufacturing capabilities to provide a way for customers to receive precut face shield lenses from the plastics supplied in house. Essentially, customers can provide a .dxf drawing of the face shield and have the sheets cut according to drawing specifications including rounded edges and punched holes for fast installation. This pneumatic machine utilizes precision knives and punches to create clean edges and exact holes. The machine also utilizes an automatic nesting program that determines the maximum yield of sheets that can be produced according to material width and length. This unique machine enables CS Hyde to rapid produce face shield lenses with no tooling costs, limited waste, and fast lead times.
