Micro Mold—a precision moldmaker headquartered in Erie, PA—was established by Tim Katen and Dave Mead in 1978. Today, the company rests on a 17,500 square-foot facility and has seen multiple expansions.
Micro Mold’s in-house team of designers have extensive backgrounds in plastic & mechanical engineering. Our molds are meticulously designed to address maximum cooling & alignment, mold longevity, cavity-to-cavity tolerancing, and ease of maintenance.
Our in-house molding R&D center is equipped with the latest molding technology, which allows our engineers to conduct initial mold trials, and R&D efforts off-line from the production setting.
Plastikos was founded in 1989, as we began to diversify our core offerings from solely designing and building molds to a full suite of mold design, engineering, & fabrication along with sampling, advanced qualification, and production services. Today, Plastikos consists of a 62,000 sq.ft. facility, with 27 whiteroom and 10 cleanroom molding machines (while Plastikos Medical has another 10 cleanroom molding machines).
Under second generation ownership, our united vision for success targets injection molding projects in some of the industry’s most challenging markets. Our primary fields of expertise include: Electronic Connectors, Medication Delivery Systems, Surgical Devices, Micro Fluidic & Gas Instruments, Digestive Health, Endoscopic Devices, among others.
Committed to complex, tight tolerance applications, we bring together experts from multiple disciplines to deliver exceptional products, service, and value on every project. It is a mindset that extends throughout our entire organization and influences our approach as we cultivate future strategic partnerships.
With more RJG Master Molders and degreed plastic engineers than any other manufacturer of similar size, we believe in continuously reinvesting in our equipment, our people, our technology, and our facilities.
Plastikos Medical, a stand-alone 25,000 sq.ft. facility, was officially established in March 2019 (down the street from Plastikos) with the sole purpose of being 100% dedicated to medical injection molding.
Plastikos’ and Plastikos Medical’s cleanrooms operate in an ISO 7 environment, with an ISO 13485 medical-device certification and two biocontamination-related sub-standards with independent lab verification.
Each injection molding machine is equipped with its own integrated robot and cavity pressure monitoring system among other advanced technology.
Expansion plans are already confirmed for Plastikos Medical with groundbreaking on a 24,000 sq.ft. building extension slated to occur in 2021. The expansion will accommodate up to 15 additional cleanroom injection molding machines, projected to be added over the next 3-5 years. Once complete, the expansion will bring Plastikos Medical’s total machine count to 25, and our overall fleet to 62.
