July 18, 2023 3:15pmDigital manufacturing leader Protolabs has again expanded its CNC machining capabilities to allow for accelerated anodizing and chromate plating on aluminum components. From time of quote to manufacturing to shipping, customers can now get custom machined parts with plating in as fast as four days. “While traditional finishing processes like anodizing have been around for… [Read More]
Getting started with design for manufacturing (DFM)
July 18, 2023 10:58amMore engineers are embracing design for manufacturing (DFM) to streamline production workflows. Industry leaders such as Apple, GE, and Samsung have already adopted DFM as part of their standard practices. If you’re using the “over the wall” engineering strategy — in which the design team completes their work and then tosses it to the manufacturing […]

3D Printing
Proto Labs’ 3D printing processes use industrial-grade additive manufacturing technologies to create extremely accurate prototypes from small parts with complex geometries to large, precise patterns. 3D-printed parts are built by rapid stereolithography (SL), selective laser sintering (SLS) and direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) processes, and in a range a plastics and metals.
CNC Machining
CNC machining works well for smaller quantities of up to 200+ parts. We use three-axis milling and turning to machine engineering-grade plastic and metal parts for prototyping and production. Get machined parts for functional testing, cylindrical applications, jigs and fixtures, and any one-off needs.
Injection Molding
Injection molding is used for rapid prototyping, bridge tooling and low-volume production of up to 10,000+ parts. Choose from more than 100 thermoplastic resins as well as various metal and liquid silicone rubber (LSR) materials. Parts are available in a number of finishes and at a fraction of traditional molding costs.
Research and Development
Protoworks is Proto Labs’ center for researching, developing and market-testing new accelerated manufacturing processes for prototype or low-volume production parts.
